Hearing protection

Be aware that the damage caused by too much noise is a common case of hearing loss or Tinnitus.

Boudica always advises visitors and players alike to use protection for their hearing when the Bateria is playing.  In excess over many years (for example, in rock concerts or a working environment) noise is capable of causing sensorineural hearing loss or nerve deafness.

However, this can be minimised or prevented altogether: noise levels can be vastly reduced by wearing suitable ear plugs at all times when we go to play in Boudica.

The Directors in Boudica take this seriously and always have ear plugs to give out at sessions to members as needed.  If you want to try out others there are various models and it’s also good to look into getting your own which often come boxed to keep them safe.  As a guide, for samba the ear plug chosen should be suitable for a minimum -15dB up to -30dB.  There are many types available from simple sponge types, to ridged silicone designs, right up to advanced types (like internal hearing aids which have changeable filters.)

Alpine Music Safe Earplugs (Sensorcom Ltd) have some suitable designs with the specifications below.
